3 Must-Try Smoothies This Summer

There’s nothing more refreshing than a cool drink on a hot summer day. When your palate is craving something other than ice cold water, get out your blender and whip up one of these cool treats. Bursting with nutrition, these must-try smoothies for summer even have some anti-inflammatory benefits. Give these three recipes a try – all it takes is a blender and a trip to the farmer’s market!

Orange “Creamsicle”

We all scream for ice cream. Get the same flavor of a classic orange creamsicle from the ice cream truck with this smoothie that has protein, vitamin C and potassium. Plus, the addition of fresh ginger (not ground) can help with painful inflammation.

  • 1 small container of  plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 oranges, juiced
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 inch of freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Watermelon Refresher

A really hot day calls for a really cold drink. Once this drink hits the blender it turns into a slushy, sweet concoction, but without the added sugar. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a straw, and you’re ready to lounge poolside.

  • 2 cups of watermelon, cubed and frozen
  • 1/4 cup skinned, chopped cucumber
  • Juice from 1/2 lime
  • 5 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup coconut or tap water
  • 1 teaspoon agave

Super Berry Smoothie

Fruit is naturally sweet, so you can easily sneak some spinach into this smoothie and the pickiest eaters won’t even notice. Boost the nutrient content with antioxidant-rich blueberries and strawberries, and you have an anti-inflammatory powerhouse in a glass.

  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1/4 cup strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • ½ cup almond milk
  • 3-4 ice cubes

So next time you’re grabbing some fresh fruits and vegetables on a grocery run, remember to put some of these ingredients in your basket. That way, you can be prepared to make a cool, healthy treat at home.
