Peter Miller is back to who he used to be because of Laser Spine Institute

Peter MillerPeter Miller, professional fisherman and host of NBC Sports’ hit TV show, “Bass 2 Billfish with Peter Miller,” spends his days on a boat, catching large fish. Because his life is filled with intense physical labor, he found himself dealing with chronic back pain.

“I wound up herniating two discs and pinched a nerve in my lower back,” he shared. “It limited a lot of things I loved to do —one of which is professional sport fishing.”

Peter couldn’t afford to let back pain to rule his life, so he began looking for options to find relief from his chronic back pain. His search on back surgery led him to traditional, open-back surgery. Many people told him that his options were a fusion or a procedure with a “long, deep cut” that would take months or years to heal.

“It kind of scared me, so I decided to call Laser Spine Institute,” he said. “It was probably the best decision I’ve ever made.”

After Peter spoke with his Patient Care Coordinator, he decided that Laser Spine Institute’s minimally invasive spine surgery was the best option for him and made plans to have surgery.

“When you walk into Laser Spine Institute, you actually feel like you’re being welcomed by friends or family, in a sense, because they actually greet you at the door,” he recalled. “They know you’re coming. They have all the information they need about you, and they walk you from room to room. You feel like they really understand what’s going on.”

Laser Spine Institute’s Stefan Prada, M.D., orthopedic spine surgeon, performed Peter’s minimally invasive spine surgery. After Peter’s surgery, he said he remembered thinking “wow” when he stood up for the first time.

“I remember standing up and feeling no pain, and I stood perfectly straight, which I hadn’t done in about 6 or 7 months,” he shared. “I thought, ‘I have the ability to do what I want to do again.’ It was the best feeling in the world.”

Peter credits Laser Spine Institute with his ability to continue doing what he loves on a regular basis without pain.

“I really feel like I am part of the team again,” he said. “I can get out on the boat. I can get out on the water. I’m spending 200 days a year on the water now. I’m back to who I used to be.”

If you’re suffering from back pain, Peter suggests you “do something about it.”

“Do what I did. I went to Laser Spine Institute,” he encouraged. “They took care of a big, big problem and allowed me to get back to living my life.”
